Hostel Mamallena is now in Boquete!!

We`ve finally done it. We have opened our second Panama hostel.  It´s located in the middle of the beautiful little mountain town of Boquete.  The hostel is in an old wooden hotel with heaps of character that we`ve infused with the same Hostel Mamallena atmosphere.  The hostel building is big, bright and full of colour.  From the moment you walk into reception you´ll feel right at home with the bright colours, friendly staff and great atmosphere.  Inside we have some of the best social areas of any hostel in Boquete or Panama, a big kitchen that´s open 24 hours, a lounge and dining room with cable TV and 100s of DVDs, a quiet reading area, a balcony and 2 garden areas with tables and chairs and hammocks.  Our rooms are top notch, dorms are small with 4 beds each and the private rooms are large and have private bathrooms.  All privates have a double bed and most either have 2 doubles or a double and 2 singles.  As per the Hostel Mamallena tradition, breakfast is free pancakes and tea and coffee is provided as is WiFi internet and public access computers.

No matter what you want to do in Boquete we can accomodate you.  Whether you´re after hikes you can do by yourself or you´re after tours around Boquete we can arrange it.  We have all the information for hiking Volcan Baru and the Quetzal Trail, how to get there and how hard the trail is!  You´ll also probably want to do a coffee tour and we have our own tours running to a small, local coffee plantation.  Some of our other popular tours are rock climbing(with a world class guide), the amazing zipline over the jungle canopy, horse riding and white water rafting.  The Caldera hotsprings are also very popular and you don´t need to go here.  We pride ourselves on giving objective advice about no matter what you want to go.  You won´t feel pressured here to do a tour you don´t need to do.

Without a doubt this is one of the best hostel in Boquete, both in terms of atmosphere and facilities. We aim to provide everything in one place, great rooms, relaxing social area, free breakfast, free internet, a great social atmosphere and all the information you could need.  Our staff are some of the friendliest and most helpful you´ll find in any hostel anywhere.  We´re always open to suggestions and never stop trying to provide everything the budget traveller need.  And if you´ve never stayed in a hostel before, don´t be scared.  It´s not that different to a hotel, just much more social and for sure you´ll have a better experience.  Just don´t expect 5 star treatment from any of the hostels in Panama!!!

Boquete itself is a surprisingly active little country town.  It´s become world famous for it´s coffee(some of the most expensive in the world) and as popular destination for retirees from all around the world.  But don´t let that put you off!  Because of this the amount , and quality of restaurants and bars here in Boquete is amazing.  You´ll find something from everywhere to suit all tastes and price ranges.  It´s also become very popular for the variety of outdoor activites that you can do here.  You can spend all day hiking in the beautiful hills and then return to the hostel to relax in a hammock before spending the night out on the town. Panama is also a great country to travel in, with many exciting destinations practically untouched by tourism. If you want to get off the beaten track then this is where you can do it.  Compared to our neighbouring countries it´s also very, very safe.  In most of the country robberies against touriest are practically unknown.  But that doesn't mean that nothing will happen, you're traveling and it's an exciting business. Hostel Mamallena Boquete`s big announcement! We`ve been waiting a long time but it`s finally about to happen.  Soon we`ll have our own bar and restaurant!  Located riight next door to the hostel this will be one of the premier spots in Boquetes nightlife.  Not just for backpackers and guests of the hostel, we`ll be open to everyone and open at the times you need us.  There will be a great outdoor garden area, perfect for socialising and mingling with the locals.  This is one of the few outdoor bar areas in Panama even.  Then theres the indoor bar/restaurant which will be come more of a bar at night.  The food will be simple, good and reasonably priced.  The plan is to open in November so we`ll keep you posted. Looking for a volunteer opportunity? Our local animal refuge center, Paradise Gardens, is looking for volunteers to help in the care of their animals. They do great work here and have a variety of animals and birds that have been rescued from difficult situations.  Their aim is to release them back to the wild, but this isn´t always possible. They´re currently looking for people to stay long term aand assist in the management of the centre.  Sometimes accomodation can be provided free of charge.  We also provide a discount on stays at Hostel Mamallena, Boquete for those who volunteer for more than a week.
