Scooter Rental

Scooter Rental

This is the way to see Boquete.  The wind through your hair, the powerful 150cc scooter pulsing between your legs.  Well, maybe not THAT powerful, but it will save your legs walking up the hills.  If you only have a short time in Boquete or you really want to see it the best way, then rent a scooter and take yourself around the hills.  Spend sometime riding, stop for lunch(strawberries and cream?), do a short hike and visit some of the other tourist attractions in Boquete listed on this page.

The price is $20 for 4 hours and $30 for 8 hours.  You`ll get a map and we can tell you exactly where you need to go to get the most from the trip.
Hot Springs

Hot Springs

After a long days of climbing mountains and hiking through the wilderness, what better way to recover than by relaxing in the Caldera hotsprings.  The hotsprings are just outside the small town of Caldera.  From Boquete it`s about a 30 minute trip by bus and a 45 minute walk through the beautiful scenery.  You`l be amazed at how you can be so close to Boquete and feel like a completely different climate.  There`s three main pools of varying temperatures(none too hot to bare) and the river runs right by.  The weather will be warm so you can warm up in the springs and then cool down in the river.

Some places are charging up to $30 for a 4 hour tour but we don`t think you need that.  It`s an easy bus ride away and only costs $1.20.  A taxi will cost between $12 and $15 each way, and this might be a good idea.  Buses don`t run frequently so it could be an idea to have a taxi arranged to pick you up.

Volcan Baru

Volcan Baru

At 3 474 metres high Volcan Baru is the highest point in Panama, and the only point where you have the opportunity to view both oceans at the same time.  It`s not an easy walk but you don`t need to be experienced.  Most people are leaving at 11.30pm, hiking for around 6 hours during the night and arriving in time to(hopefully) see an amazing sunrise.  You can`t get lost as you`ll be following the service road, but the road isn`t in the best condition so don`t expect a lift to the top.  Total walking distance is about 28 kilotmetres.  Ask at reception and we`ll tell you if a group are going that night.

Again, we think this is something for which you don`t need guides or a tour(although in case of trouble they could be needed).  A tour costs around $150 for the guides.  Doing it yourself a taxi to the drop off point costs around $15 and you pay $5 entrance to the park when you leave.
White Water Rafting
WHITE WATER RAFTING

Chriqui white water rafting is some of the best in Central America.  The rivers vary in difficulty and provide rafting for all levels of adventures, from beginner to expert.  The scenery is also amazing and will provide plenty to look at during those moments when the water isn`t so fierce.  There`s two trips, one will give you about 4 hours 15 minutes on the water and offers the biggest rapids at class 3-4.  The half day trip gives you about 3 hours on the water and allows a more sedate rafting trip.  Rapids aren`t as big so this is perfect for beginners and families.

Costs vary between companies and range from about $75 for the half day trip to $100 for the full day trip.  Rafting trips can usually be arranged with just a days notice, but that depends on availability

Mi Jardin es su Jardin

Mi Jardin es su Jardin

Boquete has a great climate for flowers and gardens, and this is one of the quirkier ones that is open to the public.  located about a 15 minute walk above Boquete, here you`ll find a great garden filled with flowers, small streams, crazy wooden cows, bridges, towers and ponds filled with huge goldfish(koi).  This is the perfect way to enjoy a lazy afternoon.  Even take a picnic to enjoy on the lawns.

Mi Jardin is open from 9-5 each day and is absolutely free.

Paradise Wildlife Refuge

Paradise Wildlife Refuge

Paradise Gardens features as a unique Wildlife Rescue Centre which is set within 4 acres of splendidly landscaped gardens about a 40 minute walk from the town of Boquete.  As a Wildlife Rescue Centre, they are constantly caring for, nurturing and raising animals that have been brought to them by the people of Panama for many reasons.  Some have been resuced from the wild injured and unable to care for themselves and others are rescued after being taken as pets by the local population.  The aim of the staff is to release as many animals as possible back to the wild, unfortunately this isn`t always possible.

When you visit Paradise Gardens, you will be stunned, amazed and thrilled by the very many animals, birds and insects that live and visit there.  They have enclosures that house some captive birds and animals but are constructed to provide them with good living accommodation and the visitor with every opportunity to see them up close.  You`ll be able to touch moneys through their cage, and if you`re lucky you`ll be able to enter the cage and interact with them in person.  Just remember that these are wild animals so careful with your fingers........  You`ll be able to enter the aviary and sit while you watch hundreds of birds flying around you.  This is such a peaceful area.

The grounds are sympathetically laid out to provide the visitor with opportunities to see up close the hundreds of different types of plants and to discover those special little secret places ~ those hidden niches that provide interest in the most unexpected of places.  The gardens feature several spectacular water features, streams, fountains and pools. You`ll also find those secluded places where you can just sit and enjoy the calming influence of the sight and sounds of living nature that comes right up to your feet.  A major new addition to the layout is the Japanese style garden which features an unusual Tori Gate, a Koi pond, waterfalls and a stunning meandering rock stream which runs beneath Japanese styled bridges.

This is a great place close to Boquete and well worth a visit.  It`s quite a nice walk to get there and then very relaxing wondering the gardens.  They ask for a $5 donation for entry but all of that goes to the animals.  The centre is run completely by volunteers and they`re always wanting more help.  If you have time to spare this is a great way to do it.  If you volunteer for a week or more you`ll receive a discount on your stay at Mamallena
